As a part of MDOT’s Mentor Protégé Program Value Engineering was subcontracted to complete Roadway Design: Intermediate. The segment consisted of 20% of the total roadway. A project milestone schedule was followed along with appropriate training sessions to complete the work.
The Base Plan work deliverables included: Developing a Geometric Roll Plot, Developing Typical Cross Section Sheets, Developing 3-D model, Design sheets including (Profile, Removal Construction and Alignment), Quantity Calculations (Create file for calculations, Create PQS, Create Quantity File), Cost Estimating (Unit Pricing, Start PQS), Internal QC of VE work products, and field visits when necessary.
Coordination for the model for tie-in points with the prime consultant was a primary concern for completing sheets accurately and concurrently for the design of this project. All comments from the prime consultant and MDOT were completed in accordance with the needs of the design.
Preliminary Plans included updating the model and progressing the design of all sheets to completion alongside developing Maintenance of Traffic work deliverables including a Traffic Management Plan (TMP), a Maintenance of Traffic Special Provision Report (MTSP), along with staging plans, typical cross sections, and detour sheets.
The Final Plan completion included development of Reference Information Documents (RID) and finalization of all plans and addressing all comments for the final design of the project.
