I-275 3R from Ford Rd. to 5 Mile Rd: Design of Permanent Pavement Markings



​Originally constructed in the 1960s, Interstate 75 (I-75) is a major thoroughfare in the state of Michigan. It spans from the Ohio border in the south, passing through Detroit and its suburbs, around Pontiac, and extends to Sault Ste. Marie at the Canadian border. This project focuses on the section from M-102 to the south of M-59, which has not seen comprehensive corridor improvements since its original construction.

Project Overview:
​The I-75 Modernization Project addresses increased congestion and changes in land use along the corridor. Developed over nearly 20 years, the project aims to improve traffic flow and safety through comprehensive corridor improvements.
Value Engineering's Role:
VE contributed to the project by designing landscape features for two specific stretches along I-75. These areas are located near the Heathers condominium complex and the Adams Woods condominium complex as part of a larger 3.1-mile segment.
Scope of Work: VE's responsibilities included:
  • Identifying and recommending plant species for landscaping and screening purposes.
  • Ensuring plant diversity, visual interest, and sustainability aligned with the corridor's context.
  • Preference for native plants selected for their hardiness, suitability to soil and site conditions, tolerance to salt spray and saline soils, drought tolerance, and minimal maintenance requirements post-establishment.

  • Provided solutions to unique challenges encountered during the project's design phase.
