This project encompasses the complete reconstruction of the I-696 freeway from Lahser Rd. to Dequindre Rd., including multiple interchanges and ramps within the project limits. This urban corridor spans approximately 9.8 miles through several municipalities including City of Southfield, City of Lathrup Village, City of Oak Park, City of Huntington Woods, City of Royal Oak, and City of Madison Heights, with adjacent communities including City of Pleasant Ridge, City of Ferndale, and City of Hazel Park.
SCOPE OF WORK:
VE will provide complex roadway design services for the I-696 freeway mainline and four interchange ramps between Mohawk Ave. / Bermuda St. and Campbell Rd. / Hilton Rd., with precise limits to be determined.
Develop a 3-D model encompassing horizontal alignments, vertical profiles, basic side slopes, end conditions, and unique templates tailored to location-specific conditions.
Coordinate with subconsultant and designated subconsultants for the design and delivery of project components, including drainage design, specialty walls, ITS infrastructure, and signing.
Assist in resolving utility conflicts and undertake storm sewer modifications.
DELIVERABLES:
Base Plan Submittal:
Prepare project PDF sheets for alignment, removal, construction, and profiles.
Develop typical cross-section sheets (11x17 size) and a 3-D model with initial alignments and basic side slopes.
Preliminary Plan Submittal:
Update the 75% model with refined ramp terminals and standard templates modified for specific locations.
Finalize unique typical cross-sections and prepare ramp gore detail sheets (11x17 size).
Final Plan Coordination (FPC) Submittal:
Update the 90% model with detailed ramp terminals, refined side slopes, and superelevations.
Prepare finalized 100% model, including quantities spreadsheet and engineering cost estimates.
Final Deliverables:
Submit final supplemental documentation and engineer’s estimates.
Prepare exhibits for public involvement meetings and support coordination with local municipalities.
