The I-94 reconstruction project is located from West Michigan Ave to the M-60 interchange in Jackson, Michigan.
VE (Value Engineering LLC) was subconsultant on this project providing: Proposed roadway typical sections, removal and construction plans, 3D civil modeling, profile sheets, guardrail/barrier design and details, grading design, including detail grade sheets, acceleration/deceleration lane improvements, ramp terminal improvements, special provisions (if needed for ramp work), quantity calculations and cost estimates related to the ramps.
The first design phase included the Dearing Rd interchange ramp design which consisted of the following: Preparing Base, Preliminary, FPC, OEC and Final Plans for the ramps at the Dearing Rd interchange. Work included:
Advancing work plans
Defining specifications
Configuring engineering cost estimates
Calculating quantities
Provided engineering calculations
Developing civil 3D modeling
Creating profile sheets
Generating Guardrail design and detail sheets
Establishing grading design including detail grade sheets
Implementing lane improvements
Modifying design with special provisions when necessary
Ramp design within the project corridor
The design work and modeling for this project offered valuable experience for our engineers through the mentor protégé program that was a part of this project. Value Engineering was able to gain knowledge and resources from our Prime contractor that facilitated meetings and over the shoulder work to ensure continuity throughout the design process.
