The M-102 (8 Mile) construction project is situated in an urban setting, addressing critical infrastructure needs spanning multiple lanes.
This project focuses on the comprehensive rehabilitation of all eight lanes of M-102, including crossovers, turn lanes, traffic sign upgrades, sidewalk enhancements, pavement repairs, curb and gutter replacements, drainage improvements, and driveway approach refurbishments. Additionally, the project encompasses bridge work such as superstructure and substructure repairs, pier and pier cap replacements, painting, and application of concrete surface coatings. Value Engineering (VE) played a pivotal role as a subconsultant, providing essential office technician services crucial for project oversight. VE's responsibilities included meticulous adherence to MDOT recordkeeping and documentation procedures. VE actively resolved discrepancies identified during project record reviews and collaborated closely with the contractor to address deficiencies in materials and project documentation.
VE's scope for this project included:
Office Technician Services: Reviewing Inspector’s Daily Reports (IDRs), validating prevailing certified wage rates, and ensuring accuracy of material source lists (MSLs) to maintain compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
VE’s contributions were integral to ensuring efficient project management and adherence to quality standards, essential for the successful rehabilitation of M-102 (8 Mile).
