The M-14/I-96 construction project spans through Livonia, Wayne County, MI, focusing on a 3.90-mile stretch of road reconstruction and bridge rehabilitation. This project addresses critical infrastructure needs from Sheldon Road to Newburgh Road, encompassing enhancements such as signing, pavement markings, ITS, lighting, trails, and extensive work on 17 structures including deck replacements, epoxy overlays, and various repairs.
Road Reconstruction The road segments within the project limits are vital components of the transportation network.
Value Engineering (VE) served as a sub-consultant, providing essential office technician and construction engineering services. VE’s role involved overseeing construction and inspection processes, including reviewing lane closure requests, concrete mix designs, RFIs, shop drawings, contract modifications, and quantity verifications. VE ensured full compliance with MDOT & FHWA regulations and federal aid project requirements, completing all project documentation promptly and comprehensively. For this project, VE's scope included:
Office Technician Services: Project administration, review of Inspector’s Daily Reports, quantity documentation and payment verification, prevailing wage compliance checks, and record-keeping.
Construction Inspection Services: Oversight of field operations, submission of Daily Work Reports (DWRs), quantity measurements, quality control of materials, and adherence to MDOT & FHWA regulations.
Bridge Rehabilitation The bridge rehabilitation component of the project focused on 17 structures along M-14, including deck replacements, epoxy overlays, railing and substructure repairs, and various protective coatings. VE's role as a sub-consultant included full-time Construction Inspection services, ensuring:

Submission of Daily Work Reports (DWRs) and measurement computations.
Conducting Wage Rate Interviews (WRIs) and maintaining detailed records of operations.
