US-131 Dynamic Hard Shoulder Running - Design The project entails road improvements to facilitate dynamic hard shoulder running on the median shoulder of US-131, stretching from I-96 to Post Drive. This includes intelligent transportation systems (ITS), bridge rehabilitation and widening, pavement markings, and signing. The project is divided into two phases.
Phase 1, involves Early Preliminary Engineering (EPE), design survey, and environmental studies. The plans for this phase will be developed to 30% completion. Value Engineering (VE) will complete the work outlined for phase 1, which includes the development of 30% base plans for the US-131 dynamic hard shoulder running project, the development of maintenance of traffic (MOT) concepts, and the investigation of crash sites.
Phase 2 includes the development of plans, specifications, and estimates. This phase also includes the design of the US-131 bridge over West River Drive. During this final design phase, VE will design roadway pavement markings, crash investigation sites, and West River Drive bridge approach work. VE will also provide staging plans for the maintenance of traffic.
