W.J. Hayes Park Road Rehabilitation - Design

The W.J. Hayes Park Road Rehabilitation project focused on improving approximately 1.2 miles of park roadways and drives, along with culvert replacements, pavement marking, and maintenance of traffic within the park, including on M-124. This initiative aimed to enhance accessibility and safety while minimizing disruptions to park visitors during construction.
Project Overview
The project scope included:

• Rehabilitation of approximately 1.2 miles of park roadways and drives.
• Culvert replacements.
• Pavement marking design.
• Maintenance of traffic design within the park and on M-124 to ensure continuous access for park customers.
• Coordination with MDOT to resolve any utility conflicts.

Scope of Work
VE served as the primary consultant for design services on the W.J. Hayes Park Road Rehabilitation project, excluding maintenance of traffic (MOT) design and geotechnical services, which were coordinated with a subconsultant. Responsibilities included:

• Development of Project Log:
  • Identification and documentation of various pavement restoration fix types.
  • Creation of log plans, typical cross-sections, and engineering details.
• Specification and Proposal Development:
  • Preparation of proposal documents and engineering specifications.
  • Calculation of project quantities and development of engineering cost estimates.
• Construction Planning:
  • Development of a Critical Path Method (CPM) network tailored to accommodate park usage and seasonal constraints.
  • Recommendations to minimize construction time and mitigate impacts on park visitors.
• Pavement Marking Design:
  • Design and layout of pavement markings to enhance safety and traffic flow within the park.

VE's proactive approach ensured that the project was executed efficiently, meeting all regulatory requirements and enhancing the overall infrastructure of W.J. Hayes Park for the benefit of its visitors.
